Bargain Ball Gown

The first assignment that has been set for Fashion Buying is to create a ‘Bargain Ball gown’ with four other students on my course. The dress should be made out of none traditional materials that have been recycled/upcycled, these can be found by our team mates that have any materials or charity shops.  The budget is limited to £10 as a group and must not cost more.

Before the garment is made it’s essential that individually we research colours, patterns and trends for inspiration. Equally, it is just as important to discuss this as a group in order to come to an agreed conclusion on the garment itself. Testing the materials that have been chosen is important as we need to ensure it’s suitable for the customer and that if any alterations need to be made there is enough time to produce the perfect garment.

This, however is the process leading up to the finished garment after all the extensive research.

This is the process of how we made a Feather Bralette out of a cushion for our recycled red carpet ball gown. Once this was created as a team we had to then decide the bottom half of the garment which we found tremendously difficult, our first idea was to used a paper bottom but we found it hard to work as we wanted it to be long and flowing. However, one of the team member had a door curtain that would work lovely with the piece therefore we decided to use it.
